Nov 27, 2023     Canopy Door Latch - Left - (3 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Did several steps in preparation for drilling the critical canopy lip hole for the latch bushing placement.

Shortened one of the lock base screws to allow the latch to clear when opening on the inside of door. Then torqued down both of the lock base screws to get it seated where it was going to be.

Temporarily installed the rubber door seal with blue tape. I did not use the stock rubber strips but instead went with the Midwest Builders recommendation of the slightly wider seals that have 3M adhesive backing built in (McMaster-Carr product #93085K485).

Then used ratchet straps and wide neck clamps to get the door compressed into its desired location to know where the front/back latches will be.

Drilled the striker plate pilot and then M4 rivnut holes for front and back and installed rivnuts with JB Weld.

Installed the M4 rivnut for the P-clip in the middle. I ordered some slightly longer P-clips so that it would not pull the latch connecting rod downward so aggressively as it did with the stock P-clip (McMaster-Carr product #8876T2).
